Justin Combs’ mother, Misa Hylton, is speaking out for the first time on the video of Diddy assaulting Cassie in 2016. Misa is the first person in Diddy’s family circle to speak on the video.
CNN first reported on the viral surveillance video on May 17. The singer has yet to publicly comment, but Sean Combs issued a blanket apology in a video, which her lawyer rejected shortly after.
Meanwhile, Sean’s adult children, Justin, Christian, and Quincy, have not publicly reacted to the footage.
In her statement, shared on Instagram, Misa spoke about the video’s impact on her son’s younger siblings and her own triggered “trauma.” She shared how she relates to Cassie but didn’t seem to accuse her ex of anything specific. Instead, she wished him “help.”
“I am heartbroken that Cassie must relive the horror of her abuse, and my heart goes out to her. I know exactly how she feels, and through my empathy, it has triggered my own trauma. These young people were raised by women that want the best for them – we put God and education first and have always been united in our mutual effort to support their dreams. Two of the youngest do not have their mother here and it has been our duty to support them. Their father needs help and I am praying that he truly does the personal work and receives it.”
Misa made her statement in the caption of the post, which included two photos of all the Combs children — the sons in one photo and the daughters in the other.
This is the first time Misa has spoken about abuse allegations against her ex. However, she doesn’t play when it comes to the Combs kids. She recently went off after federal agents detained her son and Christian Combs at one of their father’s raided homes.
The graphic video of Diddy dragging, kicking, and throwing things at 19-year-old Cassie in a Los Angeles hotel hallway has brought a wave of reactions.
REVOLT issued a statement clarifying their snipped ties with Combs and denouncing domestic violence.
Former Bad Bad Records rapper Shyne did the same, name-dropping his ex-boss and calling out the abusive actions in the video. Meanwhile, other celebrities, like Cedric The Entertainer and Erica Campbell, and former artists, like Aubrey O’Day, have also spoken out.
The abuse video corroborates one of Cassie’s assault lawsuit accusations against her ex-boyfriend. However, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office says they will not be pursuing charges against the mogul because of the state of limitations on the crime.
