Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin will not face criminal charges after Texas police closed an investigation into an unspecified “allegation” made against him, the Dallas Morning NewsMichael Gehlken reported.

A spokesperson for the police department in Allen, Texas, told Gehlken the investigation closed “weeks ago.”

The case was first reported by NBC Sports’ Mike Florio in January.

At the time, the police confirmed only that there was an “allegation” and that the investigation was “in its very early stages,” according to Florio.

Irvin’s lawyer Levi McCathern told Florio in January that there was “absolutely no truth” to the allegation and that Irvin “didn’t do anything wrong or inappropriate.”

Irvin was recently involved in a legal battle in Collin County, Texas, after he sued Marriott International in February 2023 for defamation and tortious interference in a business relationship.

He filed the lawsuit after the hotel chain accused him of inappropriately approaching a female employee, leading to his suspension from NFL Media.

The lawsuit was settled in September, at which point Irvin was reinstated at the network before his contract ended among other personnel cuts earlier this month.

Irvin spent 12 seasons playing for the Cowboys between 1988 and 1999. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007 and worked for NFL Network from 2009 to 2024.
